good ol' steve mcqueen...

after months of saying "i want to rent that" and never getting around to it, i FINALLY got my hands on a copy of "le mans" starring steve mcqueen. i like steve. i like the music used in his films, the action sequences featuring vehicles drivin by the man himself...but...this film was brutal! i sat through it hoping that more of a story line would come out of it but no...no, there wasn't one. oh, i'm sure you movie buffs will say "read into not what was said explicitly, but between those proverbial lines". well i did. i took film 101 at york u. there was nothin, man. and on top of that i'm not into cars. i was more interested in seeing what camera's the hundreds of photographers were using at the race (mainly nikon, i see...i'm in good company!). steve's still awesome, but this film was definitely not my taste.

the bolton fall fair...

we spent the day (or a part of it at least) in bolton, ontario for their annual fall fair. it rained like a bugger, so we didn't spend as much time there as we had hoped. regardless, it was a good time.

a hurt bird...

when i got home from work today, i found a bird just sitting on my porch. he wasn't immediately scared of me (like most birds and people are) so i think he may have flown into our window and was in shock. picture windows are death traps for birds.

technology, geology & photography...

as those of you who read this blog are aware, my girlfriend marina is in europe. she's been gone for 2 weeks so far, and will be gone for another 4. i have, however, been speaking with her daily on skype, which is an amazing tool for communication. at the same time, she's been uploading her photographs to her yahoo photo album, and together we've been going through them. one photograph in particular stood out to me, and in fact i posted it on the blog a few days ago.

for me it was reminiscent of an ansel adams sierra nevada photograph, although this one was taken in austria. i asked her to email me the full resolution image, which she did yesturday. i then took the photograph, worked my black and white magic in photoshop (the original is in colour), took it to costco, had it enlarged to 11x16 in 1 hour (during which i went to loomis art store and bought a frame), brought the photo home, framed it...and it is now hanging on my wall.

all this in a matter of hours, and marina won't even be home until mid-october. technology is really an amazing tool.

more rattlesnake point...

as those of you who know me are aware, i never leave the house without my trusty sony p43 tucked firmly in my side pocket (seen to the right replacing my head). i've been seriously trying to keep up the 'daily photo' project that i began in july (the project being that i take at least one photo a day and post it on the dagobah blog), and it helps when i have a camera close at hand.

well, yesturday was no exception. despite having my serious camera with me at rattlesnake point (the good old nikon), i had my sony just begging to come out and snap a few shots. well, here are two that it produced...not as fancy as the shots seen on my september 13th post, but they have a certain simple charm to them.

some photos of, and from...

...rattlesnake point in milton, ontario. the first i took a few days ago. i wanted a further vantage point of the escarpment face from the shot i have on my website called simply "escarpment face". the other is one i took today of mount nemo from the top of that rocky area in the first photo. it was quite rainy and gross today, but i think some of the best photos come out of crappy weather conditions.

the land of arnold...

today's photos come to us via my galfriend marina, who spent the day driving around austria. i wish i was there...

5 years later...

...19 945 american soldiers wounded, 39 171 iraqi civilians killed, 0 weapons of mass destruction found, 0 links to al qaeda.

i'm sorry, why was iraq invaded again?

america, you were flat out lied to by your president, and your bravest children, along with the innocent civilians of iraq, are paying for this manipulation with their lives. on this fifth anniversary, certainly do not forget the 2,973 victims of the terrorist attack on the united states, but please also keep in your thoughts the 39 171 terror victims in iraq, killed at the hand of your president.

some old photos...

i was looking through some of my older photographs and came across a couple that spoke to me in a way that they hadn't done when i made the exposures. these aren't my best photographs by any means, but they do have a certain charm to them. the tree was taken in early 2005 and the road was early 2006.

just a regular day...

as i usually do, when i got home from work i took lucky out into the backyard. while there i noticed a sure sign of an impending autumn...that being the PURPLE grapes on our vines...

i later decided i'd treat myself to some junk food...mcdonald's style. this was shot in the drive thru...

afterwards, my mummy and i went down to ikea where a huge storm erupted right as we got there. by the time we were ready to leave it had cleared and there was a great suburban sunset...

later on in the evening the sky kept flashing with lightning, and i tried to capture it in pixels...mind you, i was indoors, without a tripod, and shooting through a window into the backyard that was full of trees...

some late-summer lounging...

after spending some time working on some...well, work, i felt i deserved some time to relax. i decided to head upstairs to see what lucky (the dagobah dog) was up to. she was asleep.

upon lying down on the bed beside her, she woke up and was urging me to go out in the backyard with her.

after spending some time with lucky, i took my good ol' rangefinder and drove up north along kennedy road. the sky was pretty bland, so i didn't come home with any photos that i really liked. this one was kind of cool though. too bad the sky was blown out.

good times.

powerlines...

stuck in traffic on the way home this evening, i was bored and decided to snap a shot of the sky out my window. not my best "daily photo" by any means, but there's something about it that i kind of dig, ya know?
